Message From the CEO

Mame Toucouleur Mbaye and Deborah Sawaf
Dear Reader,
On International Peace Day 2025, I was humbled to share the message of Emotional Wisdom as a pathway to peace at the Sheriff’s County Department hosted by the LACCS.
Grateful to the inspiring Mame Toucouleur Mbaye, Honorary Consul General of Senegal, and team, for her vision and leadership in making this gathering possible to talk about the Path to Peace.
Peace is not only a global vision; it is a daily practice. By practicing resilience, empathy, and compassion, we light the path forward for communities as well as those who protect us.

The Lack in the World Today
For men and women of the Los Angeles Police Department who serve with courage, precision, and tireless dedication, the job extends far beyond enforcing law. It requires navigating the raw, unpredictable emotions of others while managing their own. It means showing strength under pressure, and compassion amid crisis, and leadership even in the face of chaos.
But how can we bring emotional intelligence to the forefront of a chaotic environment?

That is what we lack in the world today. But who supports those who protect us? Police officers are not immune to stress, trauma, and the interpersonal challenges that come along with being human. They experience loss, frustration, fatigue, and fear, just like the people they serve.
The difference is their emotions often go unspoken, tucked away beneath the uniforms, badges, and the weight of expectation. That is where emotional intelligence becomes essential. It is not a soft skill, but a survival tool.

One Universal Fabric
Imagine taking the philosophy of New Zealand’s compassion, South Africa’s reconciliation, Bhutan’s happiness, Costa Rica’s choice of peace, and Norway’s restorative justice, and weaving them into one universal fabric — a common thread of kindness, empathy, and emotional intelligence that unites us beyond borders, beliefs, or backgrounds.
It is possible, and it can be done, but we cannot do it alone. Every one of us must take part in choosing daily to listen, to connect, and to lead with our hearts as much as we do with our minds and intellect.
Peace is not only a global vision, it is a daily practice. By teaching resilience, empathy, and compassion, we light the path forward for communities and for those who protect us.

The Band-Bond Movement
The Band-Bond movement, rooted in the principles of emotional literacy and universal colour-coded communication, provides a simple yet powerful framework for self-awareness, empathy, and connection.
May we all commit to nurturing peace within, so we may build peace together.
