The Emotion That Changes Everything

THE POWER OF WORDS® FOUNDATION

Message From the CEO

Deborah Sawaf

Dear Reader,

I didn’t create The Power of Words because I had all the answers. I created it because I needed a way to survive — something to hold on to when life felt like too much.

And in that moment, what saved me… was magic. Not the kind with wands and fairy dust. But the kind that lives quietly inside us all — the spark that says, “You matter. There’s still light. Keep going.”

My Personal Journey

Where It All Began

Before The Power of Words became a foundation, before I had the courage to teach emotional intelligence to students, caregivers, CEOs, and global institutions, I was working in fashion—surrounded by color, movement, and expression.

But something was missing. I began to ask: Why do colors impact how we feel? Why do clothes reflect who we are inside?

That’s when I realized—emotions, like colors, can be worn, felt, expressed. And when we learn to name them, honor them, and share them, we begin to heal.

This led me back to my roots—blending ancient Indian philosophy (like the chakras) with modern tools for emotional wellness. It led me to create the Band-Bond Initiative.

The First Emotion in the Power of Words

Magic

Magic is not about illusion. It’s about possibility. It’s the feeling of hope returning when you’ve almost given up. It’s the shift from “Why me?” to “Maybe me.” It’s gratitude, confidence, trust, and the belief that something beautiful is still waiting for you—even if you can’t see it yet.

Magic is also the first color in our Band-Bond Emotional Intelligence Toolkit—often worn to remind us that we are not what happened to us. We are what we choose to become.

Your Tool: The Band of Magic

If you’re reading this, maybe you’ve lost your spark lately. Maybe you’re doubting your path. Or maybe, you’re simply ready to reconnect with the version of yourself that believes. Wear the Magic band. Or close your eyes and imagine the color of possibility.

ASK YOURSELF:

  • What am I grateful for right now?
  • What light still lives in me?
  • What would I do if I truly believed in myself again?
